About the S&Poké 500

The S&Poké 500 is a price-weighted index of the 500 most valuable English, raw (ungraded) Pokémon trading card singles — one number that answers "is the Pokémon card market up or down today?" the way the S&P 500 does for stocks. It is a free, independent, non-commercial fan project: no signup, no ads, no tracking cookies.

How the index works

Prices are TCGplayer Market Prices (sales-derived, Near Mint, raw) captured once a day via the free tcgcsv.com mirror. The basket is recomputed every day: the 500 highest-priced eligible singles are in, everything else is out, and an S&P-style index divisor keeps the level continuous across membership changes — so the index moves only when prices move, never because the basket turned over. The series is rebased to 1,000 on February 8, 2024, the earliest day with archived pricing. Full details, including how obviously broken source prices are filtered and when a card shows no daily change, are in how these prices work.

What's in — and what's out

Different trackers measure different markets — PriceCharting averages eBay solds, eBay search shows asking prices, graded prices are a separate market entirely. This index uses one consistent yardstick across all 500 cards, and every card's detail view links to the same card on TCGplayer, PriceCharting, and eBay so you can compare.
